Destination Weddings

Congratulations on your decision to get married!

Now the next decision to be made is where? When you imagine your wedding day do you imagine it in your hometown with familiar places that have special memories? Or do you imagine your wedding day in a romantic location away from your hometown?

If this is what you imagine – then you are wishing for a 'destination wedding'. The destination you wish to have your wedding may be the place where you got engaged; or maybe where you first met; or it may be a place that is simply stunning and you just want to get married in amongst all the beauty that the destination offers.

"The Remarkables" Queenstown, NEW ZEALAND - Wedding Destination

When couples think of having a destination wedding the first things that are likely to come to mind are ...

  • it will be too expensive;
  • it might be a way of getting the guest list down;
  • too difficult to plan;
  • the guests will have to pay too much to get to the wedding;
  • we could do something really special that we can't do in our hometown that will make our wedding really memorable for us and our guests.

So, let's explore these issues to help you make that decision........

Whether you have a hometown wedding or a destination wedding you will no doubt have a budget to work to. It is possible to have a destination wedding and still work within your budget.

The most common assumption is that you will have a smaller guest list because not all the invitees will attend – while this may be true for some of the invites it is not always the case. Don't be surprised if the family accountant (who you felt obliged to invite) does actually accept because he was going to be in New Zealand on holiday anyway! Often the guest list is somewhat smaller - but remember it is not a failsafe assumption. Invariably though, you will end up with those who are your nearest and dearest filling up the guest list.

Because destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular you will find resorts and wedding planners offering all-inclusive wedding packages for various size weddings. This often works out cheaper than trying to pull everything together yourself as resorts and wedding planners have already negotiated discounted rates with suppliers which are passed onto you.

Guests Expenses.
Now we have your budget covered you may be worried about the fact the guests have extra expenses in getting to your wedding destination. Firstly – are all your guests in your hometown? Often guests have to travel anyway. Many couples these days have family and friends living all around the globe – so they have to travel regardless of a hometown or destination wedding. Furthermore, people often have an annual holiday (remember the accountant mentioned above) so why not combine their annual holiday to coincide with your wedding! You will need to give plenty of notice though!!

Quality Time.

Now you have all your loved family and friends in one location for your wedding – everybody is in holiday mode, you are in a stunning part of the world, there are many fun activities to do when it is not the wedding day so it gives you an opportunity to spend relaxed, fun time with your guests – something that may not happen if you are in your hometown and you are running around stressed sorting out final arrangements for your big day. Which leads to the next issue....

Wedding Planner.

If you think it is difficult to plan your wedding remotely – well it probably is if you are planning it yourself. Wedding planners, however, offer an invaluable and affordable service to help you plan your wedding. Wedding planners know the venues and suppliers and will be there to ensure your special day is just that – special!

Something Very Special.

Queenstown, New Zealand is a great place for a destination wedding offering a variety of locations – garden weddings; heli-weddings; winery weddings; historic location weddings; traditional church weddings; lakeside weddings – and all surrounded by the stunning scenery that Queenstown is known for. In addition, there are loads of activities to do to make it a real holiday. And as for the bride and groom – they are already in the perfect location for their romantic honeymoon!
